Clean up your cloud clutter

If, like me, you auto sync your photos and documents to the cloud then you might have no idea exactly what currently resides in the seemly bottomless pit of storage. Photos, Word docs, PDFs, music - you name it, and it will be somewhere in the cloud. It's the digital equivalent of putting something in a "safe place" and not being able to find it again. But now help is at hand in the form of Unclouded, which aims to sort out and clean up all these files so you are left with only the most useful of documents.

Clean and sort

Unclouded can sync up with your OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, and BOX cloud accounts to analyze what you have stored in each one. It presents a comprehensive overview of the information, before starting to help you clean up your cloud storage.

First up, you get an overall picture of your account, detailing how much space you've used and how many files and folders you've got. This content is then broken down into different categories, for example images, e-books, Word docs, and PDFs. Alternatively, you can view these files by their last modified date, or view and remove duplicate files.

The search feature is particularly useful. For example, I wanted to get rid of all my screenshots, so I searched for all files of this name and was able to select all for deletion. This process took a matter of seconds. Within this search, you can also order them by file size, name, or the date they were last used.

Unclouded's functionality isn't limited to cleaning, it's also designed for sorting files. You can create new folders within your cloud storage, move files, and upload documents from your device (as well as analyzing the various files stored on this device).

A tool for the masses

Unclouded is very user friendly, with a clean and clear user interface that presents the relevant information in a simple way. It's not a complex tool that requires great skill to use, but one that anyone can pick up straight away.

The app isn't perfect, as after choosing the 'select all' options to delete all my images in one go (one of the greatest time saving features), Unclouded displayed an error message saying it wasn't possible to erase the files. This meant I had to go through and delete everything manually, which was extremely time consuming. That aside, I was able to clear up all my cloud accounts (or, at least, all the ones that are supported) in minutes.

Never lose a file in the cloud again

Unclouded is a powerful yet simple way to keep your cloud storage in order. It combines a ton of useful functionality with ease of use. While there are still a couple of issues (namely the ability to delete all files selected through the select all options), and not all cloud storage accounts are supported, this is a must download tool to keep your files (and life) in order.

PROS

  • Batch delete functionlality (when it works)
  • Ability to sort through files in the cloud and your devices
  • Combines lots of useful features but remains easy to use
  • Sort all (the supported) cloud accounts in one place

CONS

  • Deleting all selected items is unreliable
  • Support for a limited amount of cloud storage accounts
